A closer look at a wood-shingle sauna
Look at the overlapping wood shingles on HobbitHut sauna exteriors, then review wood and finish information before choosing your surface.

The rows of wood shingles wrap around the two saunas in the photograph above. On the smaller structure, the edges cast short shadows across the curved wall. You can also see where the wood meets the dark door surround and where the chimney sits beside the exterior.
These are useful details to look at when comparing a shingled sauna. A wide view shows the shape; closer photographs help you examine the pieces around an opening. If a particular detail matters to you, request a photograph of that area on the configuration you are considering.
The photograph also shows variation in the wood's color. Sunlight and moisture contribute to outdoor weathering, as R. Sam Williams explains in the Forest Products Laboratory's Weathering of wood. That explains a general process. The appearance of a particular sauna also depends on its wood and coating history.
For your own exterior, get the wood species and finish product in writing. Keep the coating manufacturer's instructions with those specifications so future maintenance uses the right preparation and products. A photograph alone cannot identify the finish or tell you when it was last applied.
The HobbitHut photo gallery includes other views of the curved exterior. For a look inside a sauna, watch the 33-second walkthrough, which starts on the deck and continues through the door. The film shows one interior; compare it with the layout in your proposal.
Send us the exterior photograph you like and your project location. Include any preference for the wood's appearance. We can discuss it alongside the sauna configuration you are considering.
