How to compare sauna builders before you choose
Use a scope comparison to check what each sauna quote includes, then review equipment, project photographs and local installation responsibilities.

An unloading charge left out of one quote can make two prices look further apart than they are. Before comparing totals, put the work included in each proposal on the same sheet. Send each builder the same location, group size and room requirements so the comparison starts with a common brief.
For a HobbitHut enquiry, the sauna configurations can help you describe the rooms you want. A shower, changing room or panoramic window belongs in that brief, along with the proposed heat source.
Put the scope side by side
Use the following rows for each quote. Mark items as included, excluded or awaiting a price. This is a blank comparison method, not a quotation or an example of a completed HobbitHut contract.
| Scope item | What to record |
|---|---|
| Structure and interior | Room layout, materials and included fittings |
| Heating equipment | Heater model, controls and chimney components where applicable |
| Delivery and unloading | Who transports it and who places it at the site |
| Supporting base | Who designs and prepares the foundation |
| Utility connections | Electrical or plumbing work included in the price |
| Handover | Manuals, maintenance instructions and written warranty terms |
If unloading is included in one proposal and excluded from another, price that gap before comparing the totals. The foundation guide helps frame a separate discussion with the contractor preparing the base.
Review the proposed equipment
Request the heater model and the reason it fits the room. Harvia's sizing guidance considers volume and materials, including glass. Its ventilation instructions distinguish heater types and ventilation methods. These references explain why the room and equipment need a joint review; they do not establish which heater HobbitHut supplies.
Ask for the model documentation and the proposed air paths. If the heater remains undecided, find out when it will be selected and whether that changes the price. The heat-source guide covers the preparation routine behind the choice.
Match the photographs to the proposal
Request close views of exterior joints and the interior details you care about. Have the builder identify what the photographs show and explain differences from your proposed layout. The shingle exterior article is a look at our available exterior photographs, not a specification for every configuration.
If customer references are available, ask for an introduction with the customer's permission. Discuss what was delivered and how questions were handled after installation. A completed-project photograph alone cannot show the boundaries of the contract.
Identify the businesses doing local site work and who coordinates them. The FTC's contractor guidance recommends checking licensing with the relevant government and requesting proof of insurance. Apply those checks to the parties doing work that requires them at your location.
Before signing, get exclusions and payment stages in writing, along with the process for approving changes. The FTC also recommends written estimates and cautions against paying the entire home-improvement project price up front. Review the terms for your particular supply and installation arrangements, including who handles warranty enquiries.
Send HobbitHut your site photos and the rooms you are considering. Tell us which parts of the work you need priced, and whether a local contractor is already preparing the site.
